Plant: 3000 litre enameled or coper vessel, oil jacket with steam coil 30 atm. steam. 3000 l. Venuleth.
10000 l. tiled vessel. Nutsch 65 sq. metre (tiled).
Materials: 2000 litres nitrobenzene. 190 kg. 1-amino-5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone.
240 kg. 1-chloro-4-benzoylaminoanthraquinone. 50 kg. magnesia (MgO).
145 kg sodium acetate. 3.8 kg copper powder.
Method:
The above mixture is heated to 205-2100C., the copper powder being added at 1800C. Stirred 3 hours at 205-2100C. then blown to Venuleth. Nitrobenzene distilled. Residue boiled with dilute HCl, filtered and washed.
Yield = 361 kg.

This product was made at Leverkusen Plant as follows:
In anenamelled, agitated reaction kettle are placed 2000 liters of nitrobenzene and then are added
190 kilograms 1-amino-5benzoylamino anthraquinone. 240 kilograms 1-benzoylamino-4-chloro anthraquinone. 50 kilograms magnesium oxide. 145 kilograms sodium acetate (kesselsaltz)
This mixture is then agitated and heated to 205-2100 in about 5 hours and then cooled back to 1800 at which temperature 3.8 kilograms of copper powder are added.
At the end of three hours the condensation is finished and the melt is blown to a Venuleth and there the nitrobenzene is distilled off. The removal of inorganic salts is carried out by boiling the crude, dry ground product in dilute hydrochloric acid 2% in 8000 liters of water in a 10,000 liter brick lined extraction tank after which the crude is filtered off on a brick lined nutsch, washed with hot water, and dried.
Yield = 361 kilograms of plant product dry = 98% of theory.
