tile-lined kettle with jacket and stirrer.
The stirrer, kettle cover, and gas inlet are enameled. Stone fume duct leading to a water spray
absorption tower and thence to the roof.
Stone nutsche 1 cu. m. tiled with Asbestes and pointed with
S-graphite. Fume duct. Tiled vacuum receiver.

Process
Description:
Charge 1,380
kg. acetic acid 98% and 200 kg. isatin to the kettle and at 40℃. pass in 8-10 kg. chlorine per hour via the
rotameter. When 100 kg. chlorine has
been added heat slowly to 80℃. during 8-10 hours. At 80℃. add the remainder of the chlorine (Total
220-240 kg.). Chlorination takes 40-44
hours. Test: The melting point of a
filtered and dried sample shall be 217-221℃.
Mainkur describes a purity of 99%.
Cool to 25℃. in 8 hours.
Filter on the nutsche (1-2 hr.) and wash with 600 l. acetic acid from
the chlorination kettle. Wash twice with
2 x 120 l. acetic acid. Suck dry and
wash neutral with water (8-10 hr.). The
mother liquor and acetic acid washings are returned to the chlorination
vessel. In each series of 6 bx. The
first is made from 250 kg. isatin, 1,380 kg. acetic acid and 275-300 kg.
chlorine and the next five from 200 kg. isatin.
The mother liquors are used again each time with a little fresh acetic
acid to compensate for losses (approx. 120-180 kg. per batch). At the end of the 6 batches the mother
liquors are converted to sodium acetate crystals in the acetic acid plant.
Yield of
moist nutsche cake = 350-400 kg. It is
dried in a Mitchell dryer at 80℃. The manufacture was
straightforward and cause no difficulty.
The product
forms golden yellow crystals of melting point 217-221℃. It
is soluble in caustic soda and reprecipitated with hydrochloric acid.
Yield: 240 kg. = 120% v. E. = 82.5% theory.

Charge a
brick lined kettle with 1380 kg. acetic acid and 200 kg. Isatin. Warm to 40℃. and pass in chlorine at a rate of 8-10 kg.
per hour. When 100 kg. has been added
warm slowly to 80℃. during 7-8 hours. When all
the chlorine is in the melting point of a test sample is 217-221℃.
About 230 kg. chlorine is required and the time is about 42 hours.
Cool to 25℃. during eight hours, filter and wash with 60
l. acetic acid. The mother liquor and
first wash is returned to the kettle for the next charge. Wash with 120 l.. acetic acid, this wash is
not returned to the chlorination kettle.
The cake is then washed with water until neutral, 8-10 hours are
required. (The mother liquors are reused
for five charges before working up. For
the first charge 250 kg. Isatin and 275-300 kg. chlorine are used.) The paste is dried at 80℃. in an air drier. The yield is 240 kg. (100%) equivalent to
82.5% of theory.

在2000 L瓦衬锅中加入1380 kg 98% 乙酸和200 kg 靛红,在40℃经转子流量计通氯,速度8-10 kg/ hr,当已经加入100 kg 氯,于8-10小时内缓缓加热到80℃,在80℃加入其余的氯(总量为220-240kg),氯化需进行40-44小时,取样过滤并干燥,熔点应为217-221℃。纯度99%。
于8小时内冷却到25℃,抽滤(1-2小时),并用氯化锅中的乙酸600 L洗涤,再用2 X 120 L乙酸洗涤两次,水洗至中性(8-10小时),母液和乙酸洗涤液回到氯化反应器中,在6锅为一组中,第1锅需用250 kg靛红,1380 kg 乙酸和275-300 kg氯,其余5锅需用200 kg靛红。母液重复使用,每次加入约120-180 kg 新鲜乙酸补偿损失。6锅以后,母液转化为乙酸钠结晶。
大部分滤饼重350-400 kg,在Mitchell 干燥器中干燥,为金黄色结晶,熔点217-221℃,它可溶于氢氧化钠溶液,在盐酸中再沉淀出来,得成品240 kg,收率82.5%。
