Method:

   The 2 cubic metre capacity enameled vessel is charged with 1940 kg. o-dichlorobenzene (Note 2) and at 50⁰C. 100 kg. aminoethylimide base, 42.5 kg. anhydrous sodium acetate and 87.5 kg. chloranil added. The materials must be dried immediately prior use. The batch is agitated at 60-65⁰C. for 2 hours (Note 3) (Test 1). Then it is slowly (5 hours) heated up under vacuum to 115⁰C. until no more acetic acid can be detected in the distillate passing over.     以下是闭环生产，请见C.I. 颜料紫23生产工艺 – 略。

1.  Condensation:  它是用来生产C.I. 直接蓝108. 字母P。 是以吡啶为溶剂。

   200 kg. 3-aminoethyl carbazole are charged into an enamel pan of 3 cu. metres capacity containing 2000 kg. pyridine and dissolved by stirring 3 hours at room temperature (20⁰C.)  （Pyridine is ordinary quality, containing other bases and has a water content of about 5%）.

The solution is cooled to 0⁰, then 137 kg. chloranil added through a sieve. It is run 1 hour at 0⁰, 1 hour at 15⁰, and finally 1 hour at 80⁰. Still stirring it is allowed to cool slowly (12 hours) to 45⁰, then cooled by means of the jacket to 20⁰, filtered on a pressure filter and washed four times with 150 kg. pyridine, the filter being stirred during the washing. Finally washed with water (1000 l.) so that the filtrate is only pale brown and dried in vac. at 40-45⁰

(Important: This Temperature not exceeded, as the intermediate contains pyridine of crystallization which is necessary for the next stage. Pyridine content should be 19-20%)

Yield  of Dipxazine intermediate product P = 224 kg.

Pyridine from mother liquor washings is recovered by distillation of an azeotropic mixture with benzene.
