Process:  (a) Crude dimethyl sulphate.  操作步骤。（a）粗硫酸二甲酯。 

Dimethyl ether and sulphur trioxide are continuously mixed in stoichiometric proportions.  The dimethyl ether from plant item (1) is vapourised in item (2) and is passed into item (6) through item (3) and (4).  Into each of six reaction towers 14.5 kg. dimethyl ether per hour is introduced through item (5).  Into the tower filled with dimethyl sulphate the gas bubbles are distributed upwards through a perforated plate, which can be easily observed by the light of a lamp shining through a sight glass.  From item (7) a fine stream of sulphur trioxide, which can be easily controlled through a heated sight glass, is allowed to pass over the surface of the liquor.  The oleum （抄注：应该是Sulphur trioxide）flow amounts to 25.0 kg. per hour.  It is accurately regulated when only isolated bubbles of gas are visible on the surface of the liquid.  The temperature is held at 40℃.  The dimethyl sulphate formed flows through an overflow tube boil-glass and a spindle arrangement for testing the specific gravity of item (8).  The hourly out put of each tower amounts to 39.0 kg.  The output of the large towers is about 120.0 kg.  From item (8) the dimethyl sulphate is siphoned to item (9) and from here, be means of item (10) over item (11) into the shipping containers for ecport.  Capacity: 250 tons per month. （抄注：这说明英国人的译文也有差错！应该是加热发烟硫酸所产生的三氧化硫）。

(b) Pure dimethyl sulphate. （b）精品硫酸二甲酯。

By distillation with anhydrous sodium sulphate in vacuo, material of 99% purity is obtained.  In item (12) 2250.0 kg. of crude dimethyl sulphate are stirred with 100.o kg. of dry, ground, sodium sulphate, and distilled during 14-16 hours at 60-70℃. under 3-5 mm. mercury pressure.

Thw yield amounts to 2150-2200 kg. pure dimethyl sulphate.

Control Tests: 控制性测试:

    (a) Continuous control of the rotameter for dimethyl ether.  (b) Supervisin of the specific gravity of the dimethyl sulphate flowing from the towers.  (c) Testing the dimethyl sulphate for free sulphuric acid, methyl hydrogen sulphate, and pure dimethyl sulphate.

Dimethyl ether: free from metahanol;  Oleum 100%: without sediment;  Crude dimethylsulphate: Clear liquid, colour faint yellowish, specific gravity at 20℃. = 1.33;  Content of methyl hydrogen sulphate 2-3% (maximum value 5%);  Content of sulphuric acid 0.5%;  Content of dimethyl sulphate 96%.

Pure dimethyl sulphate: Water clear liquid.  Content of methyl hydrogen sulphate 0.2%.  Content of dimethyl sulphate 99.3%.

    （一）粗品制备：二甲醚和三氧化硫以化学计算比连续混合。二甲醚经蒸发，加热，以14.5 kg/hr 送入6个反应塔（塔为铝制，每个高4 m，直径0.2 m），塔内填充硫酸二甲酯，气体鼓泡通过多孔板分布，可以经视镜的灯光观察到。SO3以细流通过液体表面。发烟硫酸（抄注：这是按英文翻译，应该是三氧化硫）流量为25.0 kg/hr。温度保持在40℃。生成的硫酸二甲酯经过溢流管，并检测比重。每个塔产量为39.0 kg/hr。另一直径0.4 m的大塔产量为120 kg/hr。

（二）精制：

用无水硫酸钠真空蒸馏，纯度可达99%。在2500 L铁制真空锅中2250 kg粗品硫酸二甲酯与100 kg磨碎的干硫酸钠一起搅拌，在60-70℃及3-5 mmHg压力下蒸馏14-16小时，得到2150-2200 kg纯硫酸二甲酯。

【制法】甲醇于40-60℃用硫酸脱水生成硫酸氢甲酯，以它作接触剂，使甲醇于120-145℃转化为二甲醚。用硫酸二甲酯吸收从发烟硫酸蒸发出来的三氧化硫至接近饱和状态，作为母液。最后母液中的三氧化硫与二甲醚在60-80℃作用得粗品，经减压蒸馏而得成品。

【制法】先由甲醇脱水得到二甲醚。再将25%发烟硫酸加热蒸出三氧化硫气体，用硫酸二甲酯喷淋吸收。吸收了三氧化硫的硫酸二甲醚与二甲醚气体在合成塔反应，即生成硫酸二甲酯。工业品硫酸二甲酯的纯度≥98%。

【原料消耗定额】甲醇550 kg/t，发烟硫酸（25%）3000 kg/t.
