m-フェニレンジアミンとz重缩合させて耐热，强じんな芳香族ポリアミドとし，纤维やフィルムとして用いられる。なお芳香族ジアミンとしてはこのほかにジフェニレンジアミン，ナフチレンジアミンなども使用される。

Outline:  Isophthalic acid is reacted with thionyl chloride in ortho-dichlorobenzene.

Charge:  Isophthalic acid   1300 kg.     o-Dichlorobenzene   1800 kg.     Thionyl chloride  2500 kg.

Process:

1800 kg. of o-dichlorobenzene are charged to the reaction vessel and 1300 kg. of isophthalic acid shovelled in.  Then 2500 kg. of thionyl chloride are added.  The mixture is heated slowly; at 60-70℃, hydrochloric acid and SO2 begin to distil.  As the gas evolution allows, the temperature is raised during 5 days to 95-100℃.

The reaction is complete when a clear solution is obtained and no more gases are evolved.  The gases are passed through sulphuric acid and then through an absorption system to the fume duct.

200 kg. of o-dichlorobenzene are distilled off under vacuum into the small porcelain receiver, taking with them the last traces of SOCl2 and HCl .

The batch is now distilled in two halves in the vacuum still at 7 mm, the remaining o-dichlorobenzene distils between 45 and 1250.  The oil bath is heated with 30 atm. steam.

The distillate is charged to the reaction vessel (1) and dissolved up in a solvent as required.  The clear solution is charged to lead lined drums for use in the Alizarine Department.    Yield: 98-99% theory,

在6000 L煅钢衬铅反应釜中加入1800 kg邻二氯苯，再加入1300 kg间苯二甲酸及2500 kg亚硫酰氯。混合物在60-70℃缓缓加热，氯化氢和SO2开始蒸馏出来，从释出气体开始，温度于5天内升至95-100℃，当得到一清晰溶液，并不再有气体释出，反应完成。释出的气体先通过硫酸，然后经过吸收系统，通往烟道，在真空下蒸馏出200 kg邻二氯苯，同时取得最后痕量的SOCl2和HCl。

然后反应物分为两半，在真空中蒸馏；在7 mmHg 其余的邻二氯苯在45-125℃之间蒸馏出来。蒸馏物加到反应釜中，如需要可溶于溶剂，清晰的溶液装桶后用于茜素部。收率98-99%。
