The reaction is a general one in the benzene series and gives quantitative yields except in the case of aniline where the yield is poor.  It does not take place with naphthalene derivatives. 

(1)  Hydroxylamine: 羟胺化。

Water 1,250 l.  Ice 900 kg.  Sodium nitrite solid 210 kg.  40% sodium bisulphite solution 1,700 kg.   Sulphuric acid 78% 190 kg.

The hydroxylamine is used as the total solution resulting from the reaction of this charge.

(2)  Isonitroso: 异亚硝化 = 肟化。

1,400 kg. hydroxylamine solution prepared as above (= 1/3 of total vol.).  24 kg. 6-chloro-2-toluidine.  38 kg. pure Chloral.  1,100 kg. water.

Charge the hydroxylamine solution and add the 6-chloro-2-toluidine, and then the Chloral.  Dilute to 2,600 l. with water and toluidine, and then the Chloral.  Dilute to 2,600 l. with water and heat for 3 hr. at 90℃.  Cool thoroughly filter and wash neutral to Congo Red.

Yield: 28 kg. = 78%  theory.

(3)  Isatin:  6-氯-7-甲基靛红。

600 kg. 95% sulphuric acid.  120 kg. Isonitroso.

Warm the sulphuric acid to 60℃. and add the nitroso so that the temperature does not exceed 60 – 63℃.  Heat to 75℃. hold at that temperature for 15 min. and pour into 3 cu. m. water. Filter, wash neutral and dry.

Yield: 81.8% v. E. = 88.7% theory.

（一）羟胺。

在羟胺制备中，将1250 L水，100 kg冰和210 kg 亚硝酸钠加到反应器中，加入1700 kg 40% 亚硫酸氢钠溶液，然后于3 – 4小时内流入190 kg 78% 硫酸，加冰保持温度不超过30℃。

（二）肟基化。

1400 kg上述羟胺溶液（总体积的1/3）加到24 kg 6-氯-2-甲苯胺中，，然后加入38 kg纯三氯乙醛。用2600 L水稀释，在90℃加热3小时。彻底冷却过滤，洗至对刚果红为中性。得28 kg 肟，收率78%。

（三）6-氯-7-甲基靛红。

将600 kg 95% 硫酸加热到60℃，加入上述的肟，温度不超过60 – 63℃。加热至75℃，在此温度保持15分钟。倾入3000 L水中，过滤，水洗至中性，干燥，产品收率88.7%。
