Plant: Enamelled vessel; 2 cb. m.     Tiled nutsche; 1.5 sq. m.     Still; 4.5 cb. m. 

Process:

1290 kg. chlorobenzene are dried as usual by distilling off about 100 kg.  To this are charged 500 kg. 1-naphthol at 400.  Cooled to 250. 470 kg. sulphuryl chloride are run in during 10 hr. at 200 under cooling, moisture being avoided, from air, etc.  Heated in 4 hours to 730 and maintained for 1 hour at 70-730 (Test 1).  The HCl and SO2 pass out via the fume duct.  Cooled by jacket cooling and application of vacuum, at the same time drawing off the HCl and SO2.  At 600 cooling water is shut off as crystals set on the sides of the vessel if cooling is too low.  After 11/2 – 2 hours, the chlorobenzene is distilled off the temperature is almost 600.  The vacuum is shut off at 40-450, then cooling water is applied so that after 4 hours a temperature of 300 is reached.  (Test 2).  Filtered in 3 hours, washed with 50-100 l. chlorobenzene from the pan, washing taking an hour.  The filtrate is regenerated after addition of lime.  There is no 1,4-chloronaphthol in the filtrate.    Yield = 250 kg.  m. p. 1160.

Tests: 1.  500 cc. cooled to 300, filtered and washed.  The yield and m. p. of product are estimated from this.    2.  As No. 1.

The filtrate stands overnight to see if there is any precipitate.

1290 kg 氯苯通常将其蒸出100 kg 进行干燥，然后放入2000 L搪瓷锅中，再在40℃向其中加入500 kg 1-萘酚。冷却到25℃, 在20℃及冷却下于10小时内流入470 kg 磺酰氯，要避免来自空气等方面的水汽。于4小时内加热到73℃，在70-73℃保持1小时。取500 ml 样品冷却到30℃，过滤并洗涤，测定产品的收率和熔点。氯化氢和二氧化硫经烟道通出。用夹套进行冷却，并抽真空，同时吸出氯化氢和二氧化硫。在60℃关闭冷却水。如果温度太低，会在器壁上产生结晶。1.5-2小时后，蒸馏出氯苯，温度接受60℃。 在40-45℃停止抽真空，然后通冷却水，使在4小时后，温度达30℃。又一次测定产品的熔点和收率。于3小时内过滤，用50-100 L氯苯洗涤，洗涤需1小时。滤液加石灰进行再生，在滤液中没有4-氯-1-萘酚。

得到250 kg 4-氯-1-萘酚，熔点116℃。 可以将滤液放置过夜，观察有无沉淀。
